I am so not a salad person but since it’s the summer, it’s about time I shape up and eat healthy. With salads it has to taste good and have a variety of different flavors which is why I really like this one. I’m not into spinach but the strawberries add a sweet flavor where as the feta cheese bring some texture and saltiness, and the almonds add that extra crunch.
- Baby Spinach
- Strawberries ( adjust to your liking)
- 1/2 cup feta cheese
- 1/2 cup smoked almonds
- 1 small onion (optional)
- 2 tsp. Dijon Mustard
- 1 tsp. honey
- 1 shallot
- 2 tsp. red wine vinegar
- 1/3 cup olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
So today’s post shall be a bit different from all the girly things I write about. I have featured a guest blogger, Emily Walsh from the Mesothelioma Cancer Alliance to write about the concerns soldiers need to be aware of, after their service in the military as well as some tips to aid in the change from soldier to veteran. Living a healthy life is important for everyone, but it is especially important for servicemen and women. Veterans normally deal with mental issues and physical ailments due to their time in the military. Whether they’re fighting mesothelioma or they have serious PTSD, making healthy changes to their life can benefit them greatly. If you’re a veteran who’s dealing with some serious issues, it may be comforting for you to know that there are ways you can actually help yourself without solely relying on medication and hospitalization.
Diet and healthy eating is great for veterans looking to live healthier and longer lives. Nutrition plays a major role in the way we feel and look each day. If you’re overweight or obese, you may find that eating more wholesome foods helps to cut down on the weight that you’re seeing. If you have diabetes, eating sugar-free foods can help lower these levels within your body. Also, healthy foods are packed with vitamins that every human being needs each day. Because of all of these benefits, it only makes sense for you to eat healthier and follow a more nutritious diet plan on a more regular basis.
Along with a good diet, you may also want to consider exercising a little bit more than usual. In the military, it is normal for people to workout daily and to be in great shape. When you get out of the military, it can be difficult to maintain that level of devotion and motivation. Exercise does not have to be as crazy as it was when you were in the service, but you should consider doing a little bit of it every day. You might find that something as simple and quick as a walk down the block helps you to feel better about your body and yourself.
It is so important that you take care of yourself. You have your one body and mind, so you need to nourish it with the right types of foods and exercises. You should also keep in close contact with your doctor and schedule regular checkups every few months. Living a healthy life does not mean that you need to rely on pills and medications. You can take the steps necessary to ensure a healthy life that is full of fun times, good food and amazing workouts that are sure to get you feeling better and healthier in no time.
